Stats Glossary
Schedules, standings and player statistics on this site are compiled from official TPVL match records. This page explains how each statistic is calculated and how rankings are ordered, so that every figure shown has a clear basis.
1.Source and Scope
- Source: official TPVL match records.
- Starting season: player skill statistics are available from the 2025-26 season. Switch seasons in the Stats Center to view each season.
- All match results, statistics and rankings are subject to the League's official announcements. If post-match data is corrected after official review, this site is updated accordingly.
2.Skills and Recording Method
The League records six skills: attack, serve, block, reception, dig and set. Each contact is recorded by outcome as a success, an error, or neither (play continues). The sum of the three is the skill's total。
The definition of "success" depends on the skill:
| Skill | Definition of "success" |
|---|---|
| Attack | Attack point: a spike, tip or other attack that scores directly |
| Serve | Service ace: a serve that scores directly |
| Block | Block point: a block that scores directly |
| Reception | Good Reception |
| Dig | Digs |
| Set | Successful Sets |
Accordingly, "good reception" and "dig" mean the ball was handled effectively; they are not points.
3.Metric Definitions
| Metric | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Points | Sum of attack points, block points and aces |
| Points per Set | Points ÷ sets played |
| Season High | Most points in a single match this season |
| Attack Success Rate | Attack points ÷ total attacks |
| Block Success Rate | Block points ÷ total blocks |
| Serve Success Rate | Aces ÷ total serves |
| Attack points, blocks, aces, digs and sets per set | Successes in that skill ÷ sets played |
| Attack Efficiency | (Attack points − attack errors) ÷ total attacks; can be negative |
| Reception Efficiency | (Good receptions − reception errors) ÷ total receptions; can be negative |
Per set: FIVB official rankings use per-set figures, and this site follows that convention.
Efficiency: efficiency subtracts errors from successes, so it is negative when errors outnumber successes. Compared with success rate, it better reflects the actual contribution of each attempt.
Blocked attacks: an attack blocked for a direct point is recorded as an attack error in League records, so it is already reflected in the deduction for attack efficiency.
Scope of efficiency: following FIVB convention, efficiency applies only to attack and reception. It is not calculated for serve, block, dig or set.
4.Ranking Eligibility
Count-based rankings (points, successful actions) have no threshold; all players are ranked.
Rate-basedrankings (success rate, efficiency) have a threshold: a player's attempts in that skill must reach 10% of the team's attempts in that skill to be ranked. This follows FIVB official ranking rules.
Example: if a team has 1,600 attacks in a season, the threshold is 160; a player with 150 attacks is not ranked for attack success rate or efficiency.
The threshold prevents small samples from distorting rankings. League ranks, team ranks and averages on player pages use the same standard.
5.Rank Calculation
Players with equal values share the same rank, and the next rank skips accordingly. For example, if two players tie for 3rd, the next player is 5th.
6.Standings and Points
Matches are best-of-five sets, and points are awarded by result:
| Result | Pts |
|---|---|
| Win 3:0 or 3:1 | 3 points |
| Win 3:2 | 2 points |
| Lose 2:3 | 1 point |
| Lose 1:3 or 0:3 | 0 points |
| Metric | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Win % | Wins ÷ matches played |
| Set Ratio | Sets won ÷ sets lost |
| Point Ratio | Points for ÷ points against |
Under the League's Competition Regulations, ranking is by wins; when wins are equal, it is decided in order by Pts、Set Ratio、Point Ratio.
7."-" vs "0"
A "-" in a stat field means no data, for example no record in that season or a rate stat below the threshold. A "0" means a record exists and the count is zero.
8.Corrections
